Course Description: This course
will examine in detail the Method of Operation
(M.O.) of both the casual and career retail thief,
including internal theft suspects. Methods of
investigation including an emphasis on interview
and interrogation techniques will be examined.
Finally, the course will instruct the attendee
on the collection, preservation and documentation
of evidence in a manner conducive to successful
prosecution.
Rationale: Many hard working
loss prevention agents meet with frustration when
their cases are not taken seriously by law enforcement
or prosecuting attorneys. Too often the response
by the agent is to assume a “why bother”
attitude. In fact the frequent problem is a lack
of sufficient training in the investigative process.
This course is designed to provide the agent with
the advanced tools necessary to assure their cases
are taken seriously and that successful prosecutions
are secured.
Goals: This course will provide
the loss prevention agent with a comprehensive
understanding of the shoplifters M.O., successful
and reliable interview and interrogation techniques
and the preparation of an affective investigative
package. The overall goal is to provide the agent
with the necessary tools for success, both in
terms of successful prosecutions and civil protection
for the retail outlet.
